Ultimately, the decision to ban TikTok should be made on a case-by-case basis. If there are serious concerns about the app, such as those listed above, then it may be appropriate to ban it. However, if there are only minor concerns, or if the benefits of using TikTok outweigh the risks, then keeping it accessible may be the better option.

It is extremely concerning that the Chinese Communist Party may have accessed data without authorization. It would be a blatant violation of the First Amendment if TikTok was banned. The government has no right to tell people what apps can be installed on their phones. Individuals should make the decision whether or not to disclose their data to the CCP. All that is meant by defense of the nation is to protect the individual within it. TikTok’s ban on liberty is exactly what it claims to do; it makes no sense to violate the rule of liberty in the name of protecting it. Banning TikTok would be the very thing that our rulers claim to be fighting for us against.
